Ray Small, Rob Rose and Bo DeLande (a walk-on) will not be playing in the Rose Bowl due to a "violation of team rules". You want me to monger rumors? Well, 11W thinks it's a repeat failed drug test. This is nothing new for Small, but it appears the appeals process worked for Rose as previously reported, and that he ended up violating team rules later anyway. Rose would not have made much of a contribution to the game as like the fourth DT, and DeLande wouldn't even see the field even in the unlikely event of an Ohio State blowout. Small, on the other hand, is absolutely vital to the special teams unit and will be sorely missed. Lamaar Thomas will have to step up.

I don't have ESPNU, and even if I did, I'm not sure I'd want to watch this game; apparently, Delaware State did all it can to drain the clock and keep it as close as possible. The Buckeyes pulled away nevertheless, refusing to get roped into DSU's hardwood Tresselball. Next up: Cleveland State, fresh off of a two-point loss to a top-10 West Virginia team. Let's hope Ohio State stays awake for that one.

My initial reaction to the away uniform throwbacks against Michigan was negative, but it mellowed out over the weeks after the photo leak, to the point where I ended up digging the threads outside of the helmets (although the pant stripes looked pink on television for some odd reason). And we ended up winning anyway, so, hey: disaster averted. But what the hell are these? Expertly done photoshops? Rose Bowl unis, as the BBC fears (BATTLE OF THE UNIVERSITIES OF NIKE)? Or have they already made throwbacks for next year's edition of The Game? The final scenario is the most likely, but what exactly are we "throwing back" to this time around? An Ohio State squad that finished 7-2 in 1955?

Stefanie Spielman has lost her battle with breast cancer. The wife of one my all-time favorite Buckeyes, she and Chris have done marvelous work in the community, making the Stefanie Spielman Fund For Breast Cancer Research is one of the most successful cancer initiatives in the country, and without her, none of it would be possible. Whatever your belief system, say a prayer for Chris and his children, or at least wish them well in this most difficult of times. It's things like this that make even The Game seem insignificant.

Boren's got to prove he's still got it. He was good here, but isn't as good there because it's O-State. Family values thing was just an excuse for Boren because he wanted to leave. Never gave the new coaches a chance. "Some people just leave because they feel like they're better than what they is. Not trying to put that much work into it.... a lot of people get lazy and feel like it's supposed to come to them."

Just in case anyone needs extra reason to want to crush the collective soul of that irrelevant hoity-toity program up north; Brandon Graham comes through in the clutch by going all Mike Hart and talking inordinate amounts of crap, considering his team's position as conference laughingstock. Yeah, that Michigan offensive line was just excellent when Justin Boren went there.
