Bucknotes mounts the moral high horse

Coleman update: Smith, Tressel criticize Big Ten (Blogging the Buckeyes)

Jim and Gene were not big fans of Kurt Coleman's suspension, but will obviously abide by it. Clearly, it's difficult to judge what Coleman's intent was, but this much is known: the play was clearly over or about to end soon, with Illini QB Eddie McGee clearly down. Coleman clearly led with his helmet, and it landed around the QB's head. That's two things against Coleman right there. Given the way McGee's head violently snapped back, it's easy to see how the Big Ten could be justified in penalizing Kurt for the hit, which was clearly quite dangerous regardless of intent. Any rants about the "wussification" of college football are rendered null and void by the fact that these are college kids playing a game, not gladiators who bloody each other for our amusement. Throughout his career here, Coleman has been a stand-up guy on and off the field, so this transgression is particularly jarring. I must say, I'm a little dumbfounded as to why JT and Gene Smith think the BXI should be more lenient with him.  Footage of Eddie McGee's neck nearly snapping in two follows.

USC's Stafon Johnson in "critical but stable" condition | The Fabulous Forum | Los Angeles Times
You're truly heartless if you don't feel bad for him and his family. This was as scary as sports injuries get, and he needs to thank each of his lucky stars he's still alive.

“It’s up to us to stop them," he said.

Good to know that some coaches appreciate the nature of scoring.

Buckeye Leaves: Defense's dominance a rare feat | Ohio State Buckeyes - cleveland.com - - cleveland.com

If Ohio State blanks Indiana on Saturday, it will be the first time the Buckeyes shut out three straight teams since doing it to Northwestern, Illinois and Michigan State in 1973.

Dude.

Weekly Wolverine Watch: Defensive woes place a large shadow on 4-0 start | Ohio State Buckeyes - cleveland.com - - cleveland.com
I still think the Wolverines are a 4-loss football team. Next year is when they start getting truly scary again; for now, they're 2008 Minnesota.

BuckeyeXtra - Indiana coach has to be salesman, too
Indiana is sick and tired of getting its stadium taken over by rowdy Buckeye fans, but I would imagine hopes of filling Memorial Stadium with Hoosiers have diminished slightly after the Michigan loss. Indiana is even running a "wear red" promotion, and I encourage all of you traveling to the game to ruin it by wearing your best Buckeye gray.

No, really, defjimtressel is the real deal. Pure, unadulterated Coach T. Get it now before it serves as a basis for his autobiography and a Lifetime Movie of the Week. Those other guys, those posers need to step up their game, though; most haven't updated in weeks.

Stafon Johnson

Yesterday in the ESPN article, they said that the reason Johnson didn’t die is because his neck muscles were big enough to allow him to breathe. He dropped 275 pounds on his throat and could still breathe. What a badass. Best of luck to him in his recovery.
