Last week's ballot

Dropped Out: Florida State (#15), North Carolina (#16), Kansas (#20).

- The following teams need to die: Florida State, Oregon, Georgia Tech, BYU and Oklahoma State. I have no idea what do with them.

- Yes, I really do think Alabama is the best team in the country, depending on how severe Tim Tebow's injury is. Bama was scary last year with a crushing running game and defense, but they were mortal because their QB was John Parker Wilson. It appears that Wilson has been succeeded by someone twice as capable of leading the attack in Greg McElroy, and they look like the most complete team. For now.

- Florida moves below even Texas with the loss of Tebow, partly because the offense just doesn't seem to be fully functional. The rushing stats are ridiculous - Jeffrey Demps and Chris Rainey are averaging 9 yards a carry combined - but just two receivers have more than triple-digit receiving yards on the season: Riley Cooper and Aaron Hernandez, a tight end. I'm not sure they have the downfield threats the '08 team did.

- Thank you, Iowa, for proving that Penn State isn't all it was cracked up to be. Now, please step aside and let us go to the BCS and get rolled.

- Cincinnati is clearly vulnerable to the run given how Fresno State gashed them; thus, I remain cautious about moving them any higher than they are.

- Miami just happened to run into a perfect storm in Blacksburg, which isn't an easy place to win at to begin with, so I can't knock them down too much.

- I feel dirty putting LSU over Ohio State, but they are undefeated, even if they might be the most unimpressive unblemished team this season.

- Um, hi Oregon. Welcome back. Please, wash your hands of Cal's entrails and take a seat at the #12-20  "Are these teams actually good?" table

- Michigan played Indiana way, way too close. Their defense would give up 400 yards of offense to a Pop Warner team.

- Georgia Tech gets bonus super-awesome points for my favorite stat of the week: outgaining UNC on the ground 317 yards to 17

- Remember what I said about the dearth of elite teams in the BXI this year? It's very possible there are only 3 or 4 truly great teams in the country this year, and that everyone else just has an insurmountable laundry list of issues.

I don't think one could come up with a more chaotic, schizophrenic ballot without actively trying to, but there ya go.
