Does the Big Ten "need" Ohio State to beat USC?

With all of the agony surrounding the Big Ten from the media over the past couple seasons it would seem that a victory by Ohio State this weekend against USC would be critical. But does the conference need this win?

According to the recent round table discussion among Big Ten writers on Examiner, the answer is yes. But there is a belief that the more important wins for the conference will come not in September with OSU-USC, Michigan-Notre Dame, or Purdue-Oregon, but in January when bowl season comes around.

What are your thoughts on the Big Ten needing Ohio State to beat USC?

I don't think

its absolutely the end-all be-all must win game. However, it certainly wouldn’t hurt. This could be the start of the turn around for the Big Ten. All eyes will be on Columbus tomorrow.

Yeah, I guess so

And next year, we need Bama to beat Penn State, OSU to beat Miami, so on and so forth. If you care about this conference strength crap. Personally, I want my team to win and that’s all.

Thanks

Lets confince the intraconference mutual admiration society to the SEC, please. Ohio State fans cheering on Michigan, Texas fans cheering for Oklahoma, UCLA fans cheering for USC, or Pitt fans cheering for WVU — that’s just sick and twisted, and should not happen.

err

confine, not confince. I can’t spell tonight.

I mean, I want to see teams I like do good

but outside of maybe Iowa, there just isn’t a team in this conference that I even come close to liking.

I agree fully

As I said on BSD, the conference strength crap is for fans of bad teams (like Miss State and TX A&M) from the Big 12 and SEC.

DO YOU HAVE PRIDE, DANNY?

I think the Big Ten doesn’t “need” it as much now that Michigan is already getting tons of hype. I mean, did you hear Matt Millen’s praise of Forcier. Dayum.
