Bucknotes gets off scot-free

A Dead Kennedys concert: as organized as Jim Delany's speech patterns are varied

BuckeyeXtra - The Columbus Dispatch : Berry gets option to clear charge
PTMH got off easy, didn't he? We were worried about felonies and jail time and now he's taking an online course as punishment. Here's some backing music for for 80 percent of the discussion about the peculiar brevity of Berry's conundrum in Michigan and Penn State circles:

USC's Aaron Corp Named to the O'Brien Watch List - Conquest Chronicles
Almost everyone who's anyone is named to this list, but Corp is on it purely by position pedigree. Since he'll be a quarterback at USC, it's sort of a "duh" move for anyone who pays attention to college football.  Apparently, some people don't like that. Pryor's on the list too, FWIW as are Darryl Clark and Juice Williams. Ricky Stanzi is, however, not on the list, and OPS responds by doing what manly men in the full bloom of their manhood do: throwing a (hilarious) hissyfit and mancotting.

Returning starters broken down - Pac-10 - ESPN
Interesting look at the Pac-10, broken down by returning starters; USC comes in seventh place, with only 12 starters returning. It's all chocolate rivers and gumdrop smiles until you read the part where 9 of them return on an offense that scored 28 against Ohio State last year. Still, their defense, like ours, is young. The last time Pete Carroll had a defense this young may have been 2005, and while that team made the title game, its defense wasn't exactly up to snuff, at least for a Pete Carroll defense:

9/03/05 @ Hawaii W 63-17

09/17/05 Arkansas W 70-17

09/24/05 @ 12 Oregon W 45-13

10/01/05 @ Arizona St. W 38-28

10/08/05 Arizona W 42-21

10/15/05 @ 9 Notre Dame W 34-31

10/22/05 @ Washington W 51-24

10/29/05 Washington St. W 55-13

11/05/05 Stanford W 51-21

11/12/05 @ 25 California W 35-10

11/19/05 Fresno St. W 50-42

12/03/05 16 UCLA W 66-19

01/04/06 + 1 Texas L 38-41

So hey, there is a bit of optimism to be found in these numbers as well, at least.

Six Big Ten teams make cut in relegation draft - Big Ten - ESPN
Rittenberg:

Still don't understand all the love for Oklahoma, which went No. 3, three spots ahead of Ohio State. Both teams have amazingly parallel profiles during this decade, and Ohio State hasn't lost to Boise State in a bowl game.

Adam, I know you can't really point this out while working for the WWL, but come on, who's the flashier team with the dazzling offense? Oklahoma. If Ohio State's offense looked like the Sooners' did last year (which is nearly impossible to do), it'd probably be taken a bit higher. Dollars-to-donuts that Ohio State has a slightly larger fanbase as well, meaning more pissed off dweebs linking it on Buckeye message boards everywhere and, of course, more pageviews. (Oh, here's an ERIN ANDREWS NAKED for you, pagan pageview spirits)

Navy QB Dobbs not taking hits during practice - College Football Nation - ESPN
Niumatalolololololololo seems quite infatuated with this dude; he's the first Navy QB to wear the green jersey in practice since 1997. I'd say this says a bit more about their confidence level in the depth at the position than Dobbs' ability, but to each his own.

Doak Walker Award watch list - College Football Nation - ESPN
Herron makes the list; Royster, puzzlingly, does not. I assume it's an error on their part, as there is no way they intended to leave him off.

Pizza bowl | Freep.com | Detroit Free Press
And I thought the Papajohns.com bowl was horribly-monikered. Gird your loins for: the Pizza Pizza Bowl! Right in our own backyard, too (nudgenudgewinkandallthat). For shame. BUT THE TRADITION OF THE BOWL SYSTEM MUST BE PRESERVED AT ALL COSTS.

Florida Gators make Urban Meyer highest paid in SEC with 6-year, $24 million deal - ESPN
Yowza. Those of you Urban Meyer dreams who thought we could pry him away from Florida's death grip better start dropping donations into the AD's coffers, or it ain't happening. Hell, it ain't happening. He has absolutely no reason to leave, unless we promise him the world and everything in it. Unfortunately, I believe Notre Dame already owes Charlie Weis that very same bounty.

'The Blind Side' trailer is not for the feint of heart - Dr. Saturday - NCAA Football - Rivals.com
If you haven't read it yet, read the Blind Side by Michael Lewis before Hollywood takes a steaming, bug-ridden two-flush corn log all over it. The only thing that seems right in the trailer is the guy playing Oher. Outside of that, it looks like Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants meets Remember the Titans.

Hype Machine: I Make Big? - Black Shoe Diaries
Doesn't it seem like the boys at BSD write about Terrelle Pryor more often than I do?

Camp preview: WRs and TEs (Blogging the Buckeyes)

Gordon believes Posey has WR locked up and Ballard's holding down TE for now. Dane: Wha happened? Just a few weeks ago Kurt Coleman was calling you the best WR on the team. Still no real word on Small, FWIW.

Will the Florida State Offensive Line Pass Protect in 2009? - Tomahawk Nation
Florida State suffers from similar problems to ours; a good read for line junkies.

BuckeyeXtra - The Columbus Dispatch : Boeckman still has NFL hopes

Well, I guess Boeckman's pro career is on its last leg. I admit that I never expected Boeckman to be much of a pro. He doesn't make great reads, gets happy feet (albeit in Ohio State's quickly collapsing "pockets"), and he floated the ball like nobody's business too often for it to be a simple mechanical issue. That being said, I maintain that a competent offensive line last year would have enabled Boeckman to remain a starter, and that he would have finished as quite the prolific passer in his two years at Ohio State. At least, by our standards. I submit that he was a better quarterback than Pryor last year, if not necessarily the best option given the circumstances.
