Bucknotes - 7/20

BuckeyeXtra - Coaches look for third wheel at tailback
With Berry in legal trouble and Hyde answering the "which of these lays an egg" questions on the ACT with "mongoose", there's not a whole lot of talent on the depth chart behind the obvious 1-2 of Daniel Herron and Brandon Saine. Jermil Martin, a former two-star recruit whose best offer outside of OSU was Iowa, has moved over to running back, leaving a gaping void at fullback that will probably end up being filled by true freshman Zach Boren.

BuckeyeXtra - Evaluating academics adds more risk to recruiting
Higher academic standards = fewer "hurr"-spouting all-world athletes roaming the hallways of Ohio State. Which is fine, until it turns us into Notre Dame. I know I'm in the minority on this, but I don't really care if an athlete's legally retarded; as long he isn't a violent loon mugging people, football is the best thing that can happen to someone like him.

Former Ohio State coach John Cooper inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame - cleveland.com
The man who helped turn OSU into a premier national recruiting school finally gets his due.

Notre Dame, Army to play at Yankee Stadium in 2010 - Rivals.com
Malaise to face boredom on my couch around the same timeframe.

Not My Crowd: What? | mgoblog
Kurt Wermers (pronounced with a V now, as a result of this news) not a big fan of them poor black kids Rich Rod is recruiting. It would have been much funnier if he transferred to Notre Dame.

Rivals.com College Football - Can BYU reach the national championship game?
The South will secede again if this happens. Write it down, lovingly wrap it in bubblepaper.

Football player falls from Busch Gardens ride - Rivals.com
Near tragedy, but he's apparently okay. Here's to a full recovery by the time the season rolls around?

Rivals.com College Football - Mailbag: Success tough to find on the run

The Wolverines' line was bad last season. It should be better this season, but how much? The sack total (22) should drop with the athletic Forcier at quarterback. He's way more mobile than predecessor Steven Threet.

Forcier will have to use his feet, especially when he's seconds away from getting jackhammered by Thad Gibson, Goldberg style:

"Not roughing the passer. Nope, not at all. He can collect what's left of his kidneys off the turf at any time."

Graham Harrell headed to CFL with Roughriders - Yahoo! Sports
Cleo Lemon has a job in the NFL; Graham Harrell does not. Sort it out yourself.

Scout.com: Baldwin Is A Buckeye
Darryl Baldwin, universal three star with excellent 6-6 size, commits to the Buckeyes. He had offers from Notre Dame, Michigan, Penn State and Illinois, which isn't exactly the typical offer set of a three star player. Sleeper? Yeah, I'd like to think so.

Just as minor statistical note

… at least in the NFL, quarterbacks known for running are typically sacked more than their ‘pure drop back’ counterparts, not less. They’re typically less willing to throw the ball away, and are sometimes tackled for a loss when they’ve decided to scramble.
