Bucknotes - June 30th

BuckeyeXtra - Retiring Tucker was man Tressel came to count on
Bob Tucker, director of football operations at OSU, is retiring.

BuckeyeXtra - Tressel's journey was no vacation
Fluff piece on Tressel's mideast trip; an interesting read nevertheless, if only for the fact that we now know the man pops pills:

"Djibouti was warm -- probably 130 or something when we left," the Ohio State coach said last week of the African nation. "We were taking our malaria pills. I'm still taking 'em."

United States routs France, 78-0, in the opening round of the Junior World Football Championship in Canton, Ohio - Cleveland.com
I just hope Storm Klein told them their food sucked.

Lesmerises: Ohio State's Cordle raises $18,000 for charity with help of fellow Buckeyes
Jimmy Cordle ran a charity bowling event over the weekend with the help of some teammates. Interesting thought: in my bowling experience, the game simply isn't complete if you don't do a little good-natured ragging on the guy you're bowling against. I have a feeling the lanes fell silent any time Thad Gibson went up. That's a man God doesn't want to anger.

The Canadian Press: Oklahoma City Thunder introduce newest additions to the team
Mullens:

"I know it's a young team. I could come in and I could definitely play a lot of minutes, or whatever the case might be," said Mullens, a 20-year-old who went with the 24th pick before getting traded to the Thunder. "The only thing that I can control is how hard I work every day, how hard I want it and just getting better and making my teammates better. So, that's what I want to do."

Eh, alright. Enjoy the tornadoes.

Better Know A Buckeye: Carlos Hyde | Our Honor Defend
Our Honor Defend reviews the Hyde recruitment and offers up epinions on how his Ohio State career might go. I do not kid when I say OHD might be the best Ohio State recruiting blog in the business.

Add another noon start (Blogging the Buckeyes)
The Toledo and Navy games will be noon starts, book-ending the night game against the Trojans.

The Choice Is Yours | Buckeye Commentary
This post is almost a month old, but I just happened upon it while browsing. The question is asked: would you rather beat Michigan or USC, and the good folks at Buckeye Commentary say USC. I disagree. While USC may indeed get the "big game" monkey off of the team and Tressel's back, losing to Michigan in Ann Arbor would be roughly on par with 1969, and even if you don't think it would be, Michigan fans would. And we would hear about it. For forty. Freaking. Years.

Where did all the QBs go? - Get The Picture
Blutarsky laments the lack of top passers in God's Conference, first commenter attributes it to ESS EEE SEE defenses. Sadface. Nevertheless, it begs the question; outside of the Big 12, what conference is known for quarterbacks? The WAC? It doesn't help that last year's BCS title game didn't really answer any questions statistically as to what's better, an SEC defense or a Big 12 offense. Ho-hum. One thing is for certain: there is no quarterback in the Big Ten worse than Jonathan Crompton, provided that Nick Sheridan from Michigan never sees the field this fall. Hooray.

UM or USC?

How can that even be a question? Has it really grown that bad? The combination of “not winning a big game” and being pissed about it and routinely winning “The Game” and getting complacent… it’s unreal.

MICHIGAN IS THE MOST IMPORTANT GAME OF THE YEAR! IT IS WHY WE DEDICATE A PORTION OF EACH PRACTICE THROUGHOUT THE FALL TO GAME PLAN AND PREPARE FOR THEM! IT WILL FOREVER AND EVER AND EVER BE THAT WAY!!!

I remember reading that post last month. The guys over at buckeyecommentary are usually pretty good…
