Despite Turner's slow start, Ohio State puts away Lipscomb 84-64

Some quick thoughts before my Turkey Day Break:

  • For the first time this season, Evan Turner looked incredibly human for an entire half. I'll admit, I was a bit perturbed at his early struggles; he didn't notch a basket until late in the first half, having missed his first five shots. The second half, he was the Evan Turner we've come to expect, and eventually earned himself yet another triple-double, his second of the season and just the third in the history of the program. Turnovers are still an issue - Evan "Turnover" is probably never going to become an inappropriate nickname - but if he's putting up numbers like this, it becomes an annoyance, rather than a genuine concern.
  • Finally, David Lighty found his scoring groove and put up 22 points to go with 7 boards. I was expecting more scoring from other areas and perhaps 8-12 ppg for Lighty, but if he can roughly match this production intermittently, William Buford and Jon Diebler may not be expected to alternate great shooting games throughout the season.
  • Credit where it's due: Dallas Lauderdale did all that was asked of him as a big man, hitting all five of his field goals tonight and blocking three shots.
  • I'm not sure what to make of this first half, other than this: when Turner isn't on, this team is in trouble. It can afford a lackadaisical half against Lipscomb, but not against Wisconsin, Michigan State et al. Diebler, Buford and Lighty are good enough to make up for a Turner off night here and there, but let's just pray that this doesn't develop into a pattern; even another triple double might not make up for a deficit incurred by a slow start.

I guess that’s true. He looked human THE WHOLE GAME against UNC.

I once defended the managerial styles of Jerry Narron after a Reds loss in a bar after a long night of drinking. I wish I could say that I don't remember doing that.

How many triple-doubles will this kid finish the year with? I’m setting the over/under at 10.
