Michigan Gameday Thread
Ohio St. Buckeyes at Michigan Wolverines, Nov 21, 2009 12:00 PM EST
Roses clenched proudly in their hands and teeth, the Ohio State Buckeyes tread into ever-dangerous territory today. This is Ann Arbor, Michigan, where past Buckeye teams have either solidified their greatness, or found themselves relegated to the middle of the historical road (or worse). It's simply never as easy as it seems. Today, they will take the field in new threads but will look to produce the same old results; a dominant defensive effort, an efficient offensive one, and a whole lot of sad Wolverines in the stands.
Leave your pre-game, mid-game, and post-game thoughts below.

Apparently Shaw from Michigan got into it with an Ohio State player
Dane Sanzenbacher, apparently?

Three straight weeks of him and McDonough
Cruel and unusual punishment.

I hope our band is USC-style annoying
I also hope we vary up the playcalling in the running game just a bit.
www.wewillalwayshavetempe.com
Yep.
But that isn’t going to happen every time. Not the greatest of starts for Thoma after last week’s horror show.

Ran into a Michigan fan in the beer aisle at the super market
almost got into it. Wonder what he is doing now? haha

lol @ Torrence
They got a stop, but he’s horrified he didn’t get the pick
www.wewillalwayshavetempe.com
JT called him "the best punter in the country"
and JT knows punters.
That said, I seem to recall him having a very mediocre day against us last year.

Don't worry
I am a Chiefs fan and Greg Robinson was our Defensive Coordinator at one point. He is God awful.
This D will eventually fall apart.

Perhaps, but how confident are you that this offense will take advantage of it?
www.wewillalwayshavetempe.com
by Sam @ WWAHT on Nov 21, 2009 12:31 PM EST up reply actions
I think that they will
Not super confident about our “potent offense” but I am confident in Robinson’s D and their ability to give up the big play.

I would laugh harder
But they have been outplaying us in general so far
by Big Red Dog on Nov 21, 2009 12:36 PM EST up reply actions
Yes, they have
Lazy playcalling on the part of the offense, but I think the defense is a little tired as a result.

it will be tough
but they will not continue to make those tackles all game. Size is going to win out on the outside
Yes, giving a cushion to a spread offense is a great idea

one of those
is gonna get picked. it’s only a matter of time.
Classy
Great job by the announcers showing some emotion over the loss of Stefanie
I had been wondering if we were going to see it today.

pryor is looking
dare I say competent and composed?
It's sad watching Michigan try to score while Ohio State's primary aim is not screwing up
www.wewillalwayshavetempe.com
I'm very disappointed in Tressel's gameplan today.
So much for “pulling out all the stops” for the big game.

We can't always rely on the defense...
to win us the big games. Sooner or later, it is going to catch up to us (oh wait, it already did – the USC game)…
the sad thing
is the Iowa game just solidified the strategy in Tressel’s head. He feels our defense can take out anyone.
DAMMIT catch the ball!
luckily RichRod is as crazy as Tressel is conservative
for every uberconservative call from the Vest, there’s a head scratcher from rodriguez
Hopefully that'll grade out positively for us...
because RichRod has been the winner so far, outside of those odd calls.
www.wewillalwayshavetempe.com
I think both sides of the ball need to pick it up
Defense is starting to remind me of the Purdue game. At least offense hasn’t turned it over.
Saine's toughness made the OL look awesome on that play
The OL just plain blew.
www.wewillalwayshavetempe.com
Brandon Saine...
Just made a bad playcall into a very good gain
Players making the offensive playcalling look good
The Jim Tressel Era in a sentence.
www.wewillalwayshavetempe.com
NOW THAT'S A PLAYCALL
A quarter and a half of bad calls, and we get a brilliant one.
www.wewillalwayshavetempe.com
i’d like to see more passing from pryor. the run game worked that time, but when scUM takes it away, they’re screwed.
This misdirection and read-option attack WORKS
Thus, I fully expect us to go away from it shortly.
www.wewillalwayshavetempe.com
who said it was ok to remake "good times, Bad times" ?
and why isn’t it the official OSU theme song
Good try pryor
like to see some deep passes every now and then
Alright, we're trying to score here
Pryor’s just not hitting the open (or fairly open) guys
www.wewillalwayshavetempe.com
Well, that drive was on TP.
Three passes, had protection, and he couldn’t do it. Can’t fault the playcalling there.
www.wewillalwayshavetempe.com
Is it just me...
Or does half of the big house look scarlet and grey? Feel like some of the Michigan fans just didnt show up
So... what will we get?
Run the clock out, or an actual attempt at scoring?
www.wewillalwayshavetempe.com
But I suppose it's marginally better than the 30-yard sacks he was prone to taking last year.
www.wewillalwayshavetempe.com
Does the ACC have a version of that commercial
that says Michael Irvin spoke of dimebags
Florida state spoke of shoe discounts…..
Speaking of which
Miami is losing to Duke, at home – laughing out loud

No idea. I'm just rather thankful he's a senior, and Ohio State has a solid punter in the upcoming class
www.wewillalwayshavetempe.com
speaking of headscratchers.
As long as we’re going with the RB by committee. Why hasn’t Hall been in the mix?
ok I get conservative.
but no returners whatsover?
Gotta minimize the chance of returners fumbling the ball, yo!
[/Tress]
www.wewillalwayshavetempe.com
well, after a quarter and a half of pretty bad offensive play and some not-so-good defense i guess we can’t complain about a 14-3 lead.
I'm just glad Michigan has missed a field goal and basically given up on a few key 3rd downs
www.wewillalwayshavetempe.com
The defense has not been bad.
We can hate all we want but Forcier has had a solid freshman season. I’m actually worried about him in his junior/senior year. he distributes the ball well and as long as he’s not scrambling in the pocket, he’s a heck of a qb.
Tebow
for heisman is a body of work award at this point. and he already has one. If he ties with Archie for a body of work heisman I’m gonna be really ticked off.
Toby Gerhart...

So, I don't think we're going to hold them under 14 points...
Hope Tressel isn’t banking on this being just like the 2007 game, as Michigan’s offense is a living, breathing entity. It wasn’t that year.
www.wewillalwayshavetempe.com
I called 31-17 good guys before the game.
I’ve seen flashes enough that I’m still ok with that pick.
Well, obviously, but he might also be counting on this defense to hold them under 14
As he did in 2007. I’m not sure they can keep this up.
www.wewillalwayshavetempe.com
I actually think the game plan hasn't been that bad
We started out pretty balanced run/pass, til they got out of the box some. There have been a few play action plays too.
Mich has been playing some defense, too. My guess is they will give up some big plays at some point.
+1
If we played those teams at this time of the year, we would get castrated by the sports media
by Buckeye11021 on Nov 21, 2009 1:44 PM EST up reply actions
Yeah, why do they even bother showing highlights
The gator video looked like it was shot with a $50 cam corder, too.
Hates it!!
McCoy and Howard highlights in the same game? are they TRYING to make me ill?
The WKU mascot should win every mascot competition for the rest of eternity
www.wewillalwayshavetempe.com
Michigan's defense looks awesome because we aren't challenging their weaknesses at all.
www.wewillalwayshavetempe.com
Sanzo should focus on catching the ball rather than trolling Michigan players
www.wewillalwayshavetempe.com
yep. overagressive pursuit gets you in trouble with mobile qbs.
suprised we didn’t know that.
ok, well we knew they were going to score again at some point. that INT shouldn’t have event happened.
get back on the field and score.
This secondary is just... very average.
When the defensive line is not getting ridiculous amounts of pressure, almost any quarterback can throw on them.
www.wewillalwayshavetempe.com
An athletic quarterback like Pryor
can make a busted play look kick ass like that
I like how Saine cradles the ball like a baby when he gets near defenders.
www.wewillalwayshavetempe.com
I can't stand it when guys try to cut outside when there's space available inside.
www.wewillalwayshavetempe.com
Herron/Saine have definitely developed into the backfield we thought they'd be
www.wewillalwayshavetempe.com
Yeah, we might want to block Brandon Graham.
Don’t just center the fucking field goal here, Tress.
www.wewillalwayshavetempe.com
Another excellent series calling plays. Why don't we do this every drive?
www.wewillalwayshavetempe.com
gotta keep em guessin
off tackle left? or right? it’s trickeration
Not comfortable with an 11-point lead.
We lead Iowa by fourteen with ten left in the fourth last week .
www.wewillalwayshavetempe.com
Ross Homan might be the most improved player on this defense.
Considering where he started. The Navy game was brutal.
www.wewillalwayshavetempe.com
agreed.
Between Navy and the McKnight exploit in the USC game Homan was a lost cause to me. But these last 6 games he’s played some stellar ball.
Also improved: Spitler
Had a bad Navy game as well, and isn’t having a great game today, but he’s been far better than I thought he’d be.
www.wewillalwayshavetempe.com
That would pretty much be the nail in the coffin, barring major defensive fail
www.wewillalwayshavetempe.com
why are they worried about speed?
the big ten athletes are too slow right?
Second wide-open guy missed for a long bomb...
That ain’t playcalling, that’s TP
www.wewillalwayshavetempe.com
if Troy keeps sitting in Baltimore
can we bring him back to show the kid ball placement?
I get annoyed by cover 2 a lot of the time
but that is a perfect example of it working very well.

Let's keep Michigan in this game by draining the clock just a bit and punting...
www.wewillalwayshavetempe.com
Everytime I get lazy and fail to get up and get another beer
the Buckeyes play worse. I’ll be right back.

I'd understand if the lead was insurmountable, I guess, but it's not. At all.
www.wewillalwayshavetempe.com
like the article said, we can hate it all we want. Unfortunately it works....In the Big Ten
it gives us heart attacks, but it works.
Dammit Sam, why did you have to show me that?
Now I’m all hulk smash over the kid…oh wait. Point taken.
This game by Forcier
is reminding me of TP’s game against Purdue. If I were a Michigan fan, I’d be sick to my stomach right now

totally plagarizing this.
facebook status HO!
ok I gave credit
That was even better than my Pixar line.
“Even Pixar knows who the chosen team is. That’s why Woody is a hero and they put Bo in a dress”
By the way Sam
Why We Hate was the best read of the week. Even better than Easterbrook and Simmons.
ok Now that it's a little more comfortable.
I really don’t know how Michigan comes back. Their main talent city(detroit) is almost Dead. Michigan football suffers from a severe depeletion of in state talent and with the recent streak of bad seasons they are going to continue to struggle recruiting nationally. they could be Indiana in a heartbeat if they don’t turn it around at least a LITTLE next season. or even worse, Notre Dame.
Michigan is recruiting the dickens out of Florida
And I think they’ve already got the talent in place to do damage. That Smith kid is going to be a nightmare to stop over the next few years.
www.wewillalwayshavetempe.com
Who would have thought
at the start of the season that it was going to be the defense that got us there?
21-10! congratulations to tate forcier, mvp of the game. with 4 INTS, he single handedly blew any chance of michigan coming back and winning.
that’s my fb status haha
Not intended to be heresy..
but I hope that RR stays at Michigan and his system starts to work in the next few years. It will force the Big Ten to adapt. The Big Ten needs to regain the respect it once had. Michigan has to be patient and willing to experiment with the change needed to bring themselves and the conference that respect they once had. We need a good Michigan team – empty victories aren’t as much fun to celebrate.
