Minnesota Gameday Thread
Minnesota Golden Gophers at Ohio St. Buckeyes, Oct 24, 2009 12:00 PM EDT
This hellacious week of handwringing can finally come to a merciful end. It's now time to see if Terrelle really is learning from his mistakes, or if this is just a decided "sophomore slump" that will cost Ohio State a few more games down the line. Ohio State's defense should be good enough to preserve the win today, and next week as well. Ideally, it will keep things safe enough for Terrelle to learn how to be Terrelle again without the pressure of being forced to win the game for his team. That'll have to happen in due time, and chances are his performance against Minnesota, good or bad, will have no bearing on that scenario. Hopefully, our golden boy will make a few plays today to keep us believing that that will happen sooner rather than later.

The Horned Frog mascot is the stuff of nightmares
as is the head of Goldy Gopher.
Spielman announcing, which will be awesome.

Minnesota's DL did not have a bad game against us last year
And it’s looking like it’ll be the same story this year.
www.wewillalwayshavetempe.com
Looked like he set and everything, and just missed.
That’s just brutal.

Really, what the heck was that Coleman?>

I see him as more effective with the running start from plays under center. And the power runs.
It could be that I just hate the spread option play.

I don’t know if we need to go the other extreme, but the pro set makes a lot more sense to me with a big o-line and good RBs. Still can mix it up.

Not sure.
Seemed like the receivers were ready to go, and everyone else was still huddling.

Well, I think that was a draw
Nice to see the line blocking like it does for a pass, i.e. not at all.

Perfect example there of Pryor’s wussieness. I like the decision to run, but why not make a cut and run up field for a big play, instead of running out of bounds.
People at the watching party are jumping to their feet for a first down.

I don’t think you have to in college.(Which I tihnk is the better rule)

Yes, but he was automatic from short yardage prior to this season.

Bright side: good drive, and an okay confidence-builder for everyone but the OL
Can’t blame a missed field goal on the offense.
www.wewillalwayshavetempe.com
It totally changed up the field position at least.

Torrence was clearly going for the ball
Who the hell is this play-by-play guy again?
www.wewillalwayshavetempe.com
Thanks Minnesota
I was getting a little tired of watching Ray Small fair catch it at the freaking 10 yard line.
www.wewillalwayshavetempe.com
Isn’t that exactly what he is supposed to do?
by Ryan Kelsey on Oct 24, 2009 12:42 PM EDT up reply actions
Well, I may have overestimated where he actually caught it
But it looked awfully close to the goal line, which always worries me.

Arguably the coach is a bit out of line for yelling at him

Did you see what the guy actually did?
I just assumed he had a hand in that last penalty.

i think pryor will improve and develop. he’s just going through a rough time in his career now. look at jimmy clausen: he’s a heisman candidate and sucked his freshman/most of sophomore year. i still like pryor, and the people who are calling for bauserman are ridiculous. however, i see him being a pat white-type of player in the nfl.
In fairness, only like his third of the day

There's the DL making a play for you.
I’d say we’ve figured out the WildGopher for now.
www.wewillalwayshavetempe.com
More shots of the girl with the bangs on the Minny sideline
Less shots of this awful, awful football game
www.wewillalwayshavetempe.com
That play was probably 90 percent Minnesota.
Also, given how this year has gone, expect a return to reality over the course of the next few offensive drives.
www.wewillalwayshavetempe.com
Blown coverage by Minnesota, 62-yard touchdown to Posey.
That’ll probably account for about 1/4th of our offense today.
www.wewillalwayshavetempe.com
Inside sources tell me Anderson Russel suited up as Minnesota's deep safety on that bomb
www.wewillalwayshavetempe.com
I am too, but if Saine's really dinged up...
Berry getting some PT is almost unavoidable.
www.wewillalwayshavetempe.com
Pryor and 5/13 are like peas in a pod
That’s his CMP/ATT right now, and those were his final numbers against both Michigan and Texas.
www.wewillalwayshavetempe.com
Keep in mind Posey has more or less dropped two TD passes
It could be 21-0 right now with Pryor having thrown three TDs.
www.wewillalwayshavetempe.com
Girl w/bangs on the sidelines has a Lenochin
Got her from a good angle earlier.
www.wewillalwayshavetempe.com
Ballard got away with a hold, still gave up the near-sack
Smart play by Pryor to throw it away.
www.wewillalwayshavetempe.com
Well, that was an... interesting.... first half.
Seems like the offense is more misfiring than anything else today, rather than out-and-out failing to achieve anything resembling consistency. I know how this sounds, but we’re inches away from 28-0 and next-to-no complaining from the peanut gallery. Two dropped TD passes, and a third that was just thrown behind the receiver and picked off. We’re sustaining drives, Pryor is hitting open men, he’s running when nothing else is available, and Saine looked good before the injury (concussion?).

For the first time in a couple weeks, I'm somewhat confident we can take advantage
of Michigan’s defense.
www.wewillalwayshavetempe.com
Yeah. We think this week has been bad, but things like what happened to UConn
really put some perspective on the game.
www.wewillalwayshavetempe.com
what are some other good games today other than clemson vs miami (i’m a clemson fan. my sister went there)?
TCU-BYU, Iowa-MSU, perhaps Okie-Kansas
Not a great day of football. Nothing too earth-shattering.
www.wewillalwayshavetempe.com
I am, if we go all Urban Meyer and crush their souls
i.e. no prevent in the fourth.
www.wewillalwayshavetempe.com
It's Minnesota.
But at least we now know he can be competent against subpar defenses.
www.wewillalwayshavetempe.com
If we weren't excited about 28 points, I think we'd be a bit more concerned about the rush defense
Minnesota’s rushing attack is awful and it’s getting its yards today. I’m going to chalk it up to the front four having its first subpar game of the year against an opposing rushing attack.
www.wewillalwayshavetempe.com
Jermil Martin, redshirt freshman, converted FB.
Much faster than I thought he was.
www.wewillalwayshavetempe.com
I'd say the foot is still firmly on the gas pedal with most of the defensive starters still in.
www.wewillalwayshavetempe.com
Wiki needs to fix that then damn it.
I thought he was then, decided I better check just to avoid looking stupid. I failed.
i thought he was a safety, but he’s listed as a cornerback on the roster on this site. i’m confused…
He's a safety.
In the pros, he might be able to play both. Browns need anything they can get in the secondary.
www.wewillalwayshavetempe.com
Bauserman in. Recap time.
Good talk today, lady and gents. Enjoyable thread for an enjoyable second half. I’m out.
www.wewillalwayshavetempe.com
agreed.
I’m rooting for Ingram for that reason. Honestly, Tony Pike has been the most impressive candidate I’ve seen. Anyone see how many games he is supposed to miss?
ingram, clausen, pike… i don’t care who it is as long as it’s not tebow! he hasn’t been that great this season. he’s just a candidate because it’s tebow. those other 3 have done much more than tebow.
Barnes was the focus of the BG offense when we played them in 2006
Didn’t have a bad game himself, IIRC, even though his team did.
