Purdue Gameday Thread
Ohio St. Buckeyes at Purdue Boilermakers, Oct 17, 2009 12:00 PM EDT
It's time to put up or shut up in Ohio State's second conference road outing. On paper, this game shouldn't be close. If history is any indication, it will be. If the defense is anything less than dominant today, I'll be a bit perplexed. If the offense is anything more than competent today, I'll be very pleased. We should know fairly early on whether Pryor really took anything to heart watching his technique (or lack thereof) this week against Wisconsin. How long any possible aerial assault will last will probably depend on the weather; it isn't expected to get above 50 in West Lafayette. Regardless, the offense should roll, but I'd feel stupid offering up any guarantees. Go Bucks!

Purdue’s defense is really bad. Their offense turns the ball over a ton. I don’t buy that past Purdue-OSU games have any bearing on today. They have a different defensive coordinator. We have a different team.
45-6. Buckeyes.
Hopefully you’re right. The only thing that gets me a bit worried is that they managed to hang with Oregon and Notre Dame.

In fairness, ND's defense is turrible
The Oregon game was impressive though; the Ducks rank 15th in total D.

It's a little shocking to me that Pryor has a 56 percent completion percentage
and nearly 1000 yards through the air. The latter especially.

Another checkdown he has not made
Not a particularly good pass, but a read that he rarely makes.

Defense
is gonna get gased ….again
So I told her," I'll be nicer if you try to be smarter!'..That was a mistake.
Did that graphic just say
That Schlichter had more rushing yards than Troy? I guess he was a starter for longer.
We are the losing the battle...
of the incompetent refs
So I told her," I'll be nicer if you try to be smarter!'..That was a mistake.
Not sure. But it was on the Buckeye sideline
He may have had a better vantage point than we did.

agree
but dosent it have to be reviewed upstairs?

It does seem like the referees are doing OSU no favors today.

Is what it is, I guess
the whole team depends on whether or not Pryor’s going to be schizo.

Hate to say it...
but a top ten team should not play this bad.
So I told her," I'll be nicer if you try to be smarter!'..That was a mistake.
then, we’ll agree to disagree. i’m not saying osu isn’t good, but i don’t think they should be in the top 10.
I just don't see ten teams you can put ahead of them, let alone anymore than that

I see all the making of an upset

Nah ...I take it back....Prudue may suck too much for that
So I told her," I'll be nicer if you try to be smarter!'..That was a mistake.
We’ve had one score called back on a questionable hold, and been denied two turnovers because of questionable refereeing. Yeah, you have to fight through that crap, but the Buckeyes could easily have 21 or 28 points right now.

It was fun and exciting in 2002 when they were pulling out all those games against bad teams
But in year 9 of the Tressel era, it just pisses me off.
RR: Proud home of the most mods in SBNation.
Wow. Way too much trickeration from Purdue.
Want out of Cleveland? Easy - mess with LeBron's entourage.
When you completely suck, you're probably better off keeping it as vanilla as possible
RR: Proud home of the most mods in SBNation.
Yikes. Pryor will definitely wind up in the "bad" category tonight.
There ain’t no coming back from a first half like this.
www.wewillalwayshavetempe.com
Certainly. The OL is providing next-to-no help in pass pro
But those fumbles were absolutely ridiculous.
www.wewillalwayshavetempe.com
This just in
Tressel has no confidence in Pryor throwing…. and when he whiffs like that… I don’t blame him
I'm starting to think that only the most conservative of passing games will get his confidence going.
Like, a bubble screen every other play.
www.wewillalwayshavetempe.com
which means...
that the offense is completely dependent on the Buckeyes’ 1940s era running schemes.
Don’t get too comfy, Purdue has a chance yet!
RR: Proud home of the most mods in SBNation.
Why can't the Bucks just blow out a bad team for once, like all the other perennial powers do?
Why all the crappy football?
RR: Proud home of the most mods in SBNation.
I'm not too concerned with Purdue having a 2-point lead
Sorta like Washington ’07. We will pay for an entire half of bad football.
www.wewillalwayshavetempe.com
Besides Pryor's
suckitude…the O line seems to have regressed
So I told her," I'll be nicer if you try to be smarter!'..That was a mistake.
Here are our problems in this game in order
1. O-line
2. Pryor
3 refs
So I told her," I'll be nicer if you try to be smarter!'..That was a mistake.
So... did Darrell Hazell call a play in that half?
I tend to think he did, and Pryor/the line screwed it up.
www.wewillalwayshavetempe.com
I've got them both on
OU is doing every possible thing they can to not win.
RR: Proud home of the most mods in SBNation.
i feel bad for bradford, though. his draft stock is going to go way down. this is why he should’ve declared for the draft last year.
Texas is actually a pretty bad team
These OU backups are taking it to them.
RR: Proud home of the most mods in SBNation.

RR: Proud home of the most mods in SBNation.
heh.
woe to the poor team that takes him.
Browns, stay away.
RR: Proud home of the most mods in SBNation.
I'm biased
but I thought taking Troy in the 5th round of the ‘07 draft would have been 100X smarter than wasting time with Quinn. Probably could get him for a 5th rounder and see if he’s any good.
RR: Proud home of the most mods in SBNation.
So, let's list things we want that we won't get
1. New offensive coordinator
2. New offensive line coach
3. New quarterback coach
4. Scarlett Johansson riding a unicorn in bacon bikini
www.wewillalwayshavetempe.com
There’s a crowd out there that really wants Brian Kelly too. I’m definitely not one of them, but they are out there.
As what?
I don’t want Kelly in place of Tressel unless Tressel decides to hang it up.
www.wewillalwayshavetempe.com
but the 3 pts at the end when the offense should have just ran out the clock yet tressel let pryor throw dust not making purdue use its las t time out on 2nd down
I was thinkning Tressel doing the exact same thing, trying to get Pryor confidence vs. USC
RR: Proud home of the most mods in SBNation.
They might turn it around..
but so far….it dosent look good
So I told her," I'll be nicer if you try to be smarter!'..That was a mistake.
Sideline penalty? Seriously? The refs are just looking for anything to call against Ohio State.
Want out of Cleveland? Easy - mess with LeBron's entourage.
What's with the "no penalties vs Purdue"?
Didn’t they have one (and only one) in the first?
www.wewillalwayshavetempe.com
they may be getting gased
So I told her," I'll be nicer if you try to be smarter!'..That was a mistake.
Check out the TOP
24 more plays at the half
So I told her," I'll be nicer if you try to be smarter!'..That was a mistake.
Like last week, the 3rd down defense is struggling massively

My advice
Resign yourself to a 3-and-out on this next drive.
And if we do lose, take heart in the fact that even an AD as slow-to-react as ours won’t let Tressel keep “his guys” around much longer.
www.wewillalwayshavetempe.com
This next drive will tell you how the game will end.
If we can’t punch it in, we will not win. Book it.
Well, I'm for benching Pryor, if only to make a statement
Keep him out for a drive or two and see what happens.

Would it kill us to send an extra rusher?

I’ve NEVER understood the “Overrated!” chant. Especially for the underdogs, but really chanting it ever. All chanting “overrated” really does is take away from the team who is chanting it. It means you didn’t have to be that good to beat us. Your potential win is less impressive. It’s stupid. The better the opponent that your upsetting, the better it makes you. It’s the same reason all the players and coaches talk about how good the opposing team was, they beater they had to be to beat them. Some fans really have no logic at all.
Our defense finally broke. Our offense was never good enough to keep up.
If your our D can’t carry us, than we’ll see a lot more of this.
Hello, Capital One Bowl. (Oh wow, that makes me soooo sick.)

In what dream world do we beat anyone out of Iowa, Penn State or Michigan when we’ve lost to Purdue?

C’mon this is college football. You can never take anything away from one game ever.
USC lost to Stanford (and Oregon) than went on to CRUSH Illi in a BCS bowl.
how far will they drop in the rankings?
they’ll still be in the top 25.
you know what kills me? how all the people on espn are going to make a big deal out of this but then when precious usc loses to washington, it’ll all a bunch of excuses.
Got to question the play calling if I'm a Purdue fan there
we can’t stop them and they all of the sudden get conservative
Seconded. I'm sending a bouquet to Hope if we make the comeback.
They should have finally and fully stomped on our throats there, and they didn’t.

all hell
all hell is going to break out in columbus this week tressel and pryor will be under fire like no ones business
The QB situation could be VERY sad in the future if Terrelle doesn’t improve A LOT. Which will lead to a sadder situation for the whole offense. Recruiting a Clarette style freshman RB is only hope for the next two seasons I think.
I’m really getting sick, thinking about the direction this team might be going in.
