Purdue Gameday Thread

Ohio St. Buckeyes at Purdue Boilermakers, Oct 17, 2009 12:00 PM EDT

It's time to put up or shut up in Ohio State's second conference road outing. On paper, this game shouldn't be close. If history is any indication, it will be. If the defense is anything less than dominant today, I'll be a bit perplexed. If the offense is anything more than competent today, I'll be very pleased. We should know fairly early on whether Pryor really took anything to heart watching his technique (or lack thereof) this week against Wisconsin. How long any possible aerial assault will last will probably depend on the weather; it isn't expected to get above 50 in West Lafayette. Regardless, the offense should roll, but I'd feel stupid offering up any guarantees. Go Bucks!

Purdue’s defense is really bad. Their offense turns the ball over a ton. I don’t buy that past Purdue-OSU games have any bearing on today. They have a different defensive coordinator. We have a different team.

45-6. Buckeyes.

Hopefully you’re right. The only thing that gets me a bit worried is that they managed to hang with Oregon and Notre Dame.

In fairness, ND's defense is turrible

The Oregon game was impressive though; the Ducks rank 15th in total D.

It's a little shocking to me that Pryor has a 56 percent completion percentage

and nearly 1000 yards through the air. The latter especially.

We’ve had one score called back on a questionable hold, and been denied two turnovers because of questionable refereeing. Yeah, you have to fight through that crap, but the Buckeyes could easily have 21 or 28 points right now.

I really don’t think it’ll hurt him in the draft that much. There is way too much time between now and the draft for him to make up for it.

Even if it did hurt his draft stock, if it was anything significant he could just stay another year. He’s only a RS junior.

I’ve NEVER understood the “Overrated!” chant. Especially for the underdogs, but really chanting it ever. All chanting “overrated” really does is take away from the team who is chanting it. It means you didn’t have to be that good to beat us. Your potential win is less impressive. It’s stupid. The better the opponent that your upsetting, the better it makes you. It’s the same reason all the players and coaches talk about how good the opposing team was, they beater they had to be to beat them. Some fans really have no logic at all.

Perhaps. But as Purdue fans why admit they’re team didn’t have to be good to win, it’s just that we are not as good. Might as well chant:
“We didn’t have to do that much!!”
“Our win isn’t as impressive!!”
“This doesn’t say much good about our team!!”

Only mid-October....lot's of football to be played

Penn State and emerging Iowa on the schedule with the latter on the home slate. Way too much football to be calling for heads to roll, or chanting Alamo Bowl.

Take care of business with the Gophers, and New Mexico State at home and then move on to Happy Valley. Things will work themselves out, they always do.

hey, let’s give credit to purdue guys. they played a good game and deserved this one.

by emily522 on Oct 17, 2009 3:19 PM EDT reply actions

to be honest, i would rather them lose to purdue then michigan.

And the referees gave them every possible chance to do so.

Want out of Cleveland? Easy - mess with LeBron's entourage.

they did

but they suck. which means that OSU sucked worse today

OSU also shot themselves in the foot for three quarters

I don’t think it’s just Pryor, though. He was bad, but so was the O line and the defense wasn’t great.

by Big Red Dog on Oct 17, 2009 3:24 PM EDT up reply actions

the o-line is awful. if they didn’t have a mobile qb, they’d be screwed. the defense made some big plays though. probably just got tired.

We've had no offensive identity all year

and it was going to cost us against a lesser opponent at some point…

by MrPants20 on Oct 17, 2009 3:21 PM EDT reply actions

very true. oh well is what i say. worse things have happened.

by emily522 on Oct 17, 2009 3:22 PM EDT up reply actions
