| Last week's ballot | ||
- As you can see, we have an all-new series of teams from 22-25, I doubt South Carolina or Tennessee will stick for long, but I've left Utah off the ballot lately when they probably deserved a ranking here or there; probably over Wisconsin last week (though I suspect the Badgers won't be gone too long).
- Yes, it's starting to look like 'Bama is somehow a more complete team than the defending national champions. Florida, obviously, still has the country's best defense, but they don't seem to have the same offensive spark that pushed them over the top in '08. The SEC championship game should be a show.
- Virginia Tech's thorough demolishing of what remains of Boston College might have been the most impressive game from any top ten team this weekend. Tyrod Taylor looked vaguely competent, the rushing game is still ridiculous, and the defense is a VT defense. If they can actually pass now, they're one of the scariest teams in the country.
- TCU struggled mightily to put away Air Force, and everyone that leapfrogged them who played, save Miami, played better teams and finished with more impressive victories.
- Former Buckeye Bo Pelini and Nebraska look like they're in control of the Big 12 North now with a win at Missouri, and a road date with Kansas is really all that stands between them a B12 championship game appearance.
- Oklahoma struggled mightily with Robert Griffin-less Baylor, as Sam Bradford was held without a touchdown pass until late in the fourth. It's a bit of a swithcheroo from last year, when defense was the liability; the Sooners have the country's 9th best total D, and the 3rd best rush defense. Shockingly, they still have the country's 14th best offensive attack.... and have still managed two losses. Try to figure all that out.
- I was actually searching for teams that I could actually justify ranking over Notre Dame, and it worked. Mostly.

Only quibbles I would have is South Florida does not deserve to be ranked, 2 FCS wins, a third against the second worst team (Western Kentucky, third year removed from FCS) and Syracuse does not justify them being anywhere near the top 25.
Again, my rankings are perfomance based, and not based on the names in the jerseys:
1. Va Tech 5-1, 6.48

9. Miami 4-1, 5.06
9. TCU 5-0, 5.06

The only one in my top 25 I don’t really like being there is UCLA, but as the weeks progress, am sure that will work itself out.
And a shoutout to the 5-1 Vandals, nice comeback season so far.
Good rankings...
I agree with almost everything this week, except TCU and Florida. I especially agree with excluding ND.
Air Force is a very solid team. TCU’s victory over Virginia is starting to look more impressive, though I admit the victory over Clemson less so. Either way, I have TCU all the way up at 8. If they win at BYU in a couple weeks, they should pass Boise imo.
I feel like somehow people are underrating Florida again. I hate Florida as much as the next Buckeye fan, but there’s no way you can have anyone else number 1 at this point. Tebow may be overrated, but that defense is historically good and the offense is solid and fast improving, with a heisman winner behind center and one of the most talented units in the country. Also, Las Vegas seems to agree with me, since Florida is favored by 24!!!! against Arkansas this week. They wouldn’t put that out there if they didn’t think Florida was the best team in the country by a good margin. I trust the millions of dollars they spend on research as much as anything.
